Lake Mills finished in a three-way tie for second place in a six-team dual tournament Saturday, according to a press release.
The Bulldogs tied Hampton-Dumont and East Buchanan with a 3-2 dual record.
In the first dual of the day, the Bulldogs fell to the tournament champions, Central Springs, 44-30.
“We didn’t look very good in the first dual of the day, and Central Springs built a huge lead that we could not overcome,” said Lake Mills head coach Alex Brandenburg. “I was really pleased how our kids rebounded for the next two duals as these were the best duals we have wrestled this year.”
In the second dual, Lake Mills beat fellow second-place finisher East Buchanan, 51-27. The Bulldogs continued to roll in the next dual against Hudson, winning 48-30.
“We won two or three matches in each of these duals that I didn’t think we would,” Brandenburg said. “We put it all together and picked up wins over two very solid teams.”
Lake Mills lost some momentum and fire power for the last two duals as senior Andy Nicholson was injured against Hudson. The Bulldogs finished the tournament with a 42-31 win over Northwood-Kensett and a 42-33 loss against Hampton-Dumont.
“We had a very good day and likely would have gone 4-1 if Andy had not gotten hurt,” Brandenburg said. “Our young team continues to exceed my expectations this season because they listen and work hard to improve.”
