Edward J. Stadheim, 91, of Lyle, died on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Care Center. He was born May 6, 1922, in Albert Lea to Louis and Evelyn (Hellie) Stadheim. Edward attended country school and Albert Lea High School before attending plumbing school in Kansas City. On June 4, 1948, he married Blanche Voelker at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. In addition to farming and raising sheep, Ed worked for Carr Plumbing for 20 years and then as a plumber and steamfitter for Hormel Foods for 20 years. In 1984, he started his own plumbing business and continued for more than 20 years. Ed was a United States Army veteran serving in Europe in World War II and a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, where he served on the board, as treasurer for six years and on the building committee. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Ed’s favorite pastimes were reading, playing pool, fishing, dancing and spending time with family. He enjoyed old-time music and was an avid Twins and Vikings fan.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Stadheim, of Lyle; son, Darwin Stadheim of Lyle; daughter, Kris Stadheim (Mark Ahle), of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Lindsey, Joseph (Katie), Joshua, Jordan and Brandy; six great-grandchildren Erica, Kylie, Kamren, Hayden, Jayde and Jaxon; one sister, Annabelle Allen, of California; five brothers, Stanley (Babe) Stadheim of Albert Lea, Louis Stadheim of Austin, Arnold Stadheim and David (Marilyn) Stadheim, both of Albert Lea, and John (Janice) Stadheim of Lake City; sister-in-law, Janet Stadheim, of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Tony Kocanda, of Minneapolis; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Evelyn Stadheim; one brother, Richard; one sister, Edna Mae Kocanda; brother-in-law, Don Allen; and sisters-in-law Evelyn Stadheim and Alberta Stadheim.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
