AUSTIN — The suspect who allegedly robbed an Austin bank to buy cigarettes was charged Tuesday in Mower County Court.
Scott Allen Olson, 48, of Austin, was charged with felony simple robbery.
According to the court complaint, Olson passed a note to a bank teller at Wells Fargo after 1 p.m. Saturday and demanded money. However, Olson first asked to exchange a $1 bill for a $1 gold coin, but then said, “I have this.”
Olson reportedly slid a note to the teller which read, “I just want a $100 bill.”
After Olson slid the note, according to the complaint, he said, “Don’t tell anybody. Give me five minutes. Just give me what’s on the note.”
According to the complaint, the teller thought Olson was simply joking; however, Olson then allegedly said, “No, no, no, no. Just give me the $100 bill. Just give me five minutes and do whatever you’ve got to do.”
Olson got the $100 and allegedly fled the area, and officers later arrested him behind a bank in the 200 block of West Oakland Avenue. Employees at Wells Fargo positively identified him as the alleged robber. Officers reportedly discovered Olson had bought cigarettes at the Freedom gas station on Oakland Avenue West. Officers searched Olson and found $89.34, including the gold coin, the complaint added.
Olson refused to comment other than to say he was framed, according to the report.
The teller told police Olson did not have any weapons on him and did not make any threats.
