Tigers lose on the road

A third-period rally by the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team came up short Monday at Winona.
The Tigers cut a 4-2 deficit in half with 3 1/2 minutes left in regulation, but Winona prevailed 4-3.
All three of Albert Lea’s goals were scored by different players.
Anna Anderson gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first period on a pass from Mackenzie Waldemar. After Winona scored three consecutive goals headed into the third period, Waldemar assisted Sarah Savelkoul on a goal. Winona pushed its lead back to two goals with 6 1/2 minutes left in regulation. Hannah Savelkoul scored Albert Lea’s last goal of the game. Maddie Herrera was credited with the assist.
Katie Schwartz led the Tigers in the net with 33 saves.
Albert Lea (7-12 overall, 5-7 Big Nine Conference) will play next at 7:30 p.m. today at Faribault.
The Falcons (6-13-1 overall, 3-11 Big Nine Conference) are coming off two straight losses against conference foes where they were outscored 11-2.
