“Bryn played well on offense and defense,” said Albert Lea head coach Lindsey Hugstad-Vaa.

At halftime, the Tigers led 28-22.

Albert Lea was able to withstand a late surge by Waseca by winning the battle on the glass 35-25 and by snagging six times as many steals.

To close out the win, Hugstad-Vaa said shooting guard Sydney Rehnelt blocked Waseca’s last shot attempt.

“We overcame a lot of obstacles, and we played good defense and rebounded well,” she said. “I’m proud of them for keeping their composure at the end of the game. That was very important.”

Megan Kortan posted a double-double for the Tigers with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She hit two of Albert Lea’s three 3-pointers. Rehnelt added seven points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

In the paint, Caycee Gilbertson led the Tigers with six points, three rebounds and a steal. Fran Eckstrom also chipped in with three points, a rebound, an assist and two steals.

Albert Lea is eighth in the 10-team conference standings.

The Tigers play at Mankato East (6-6 overall, 4-3 Big Nine Conference) at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Cougars are coming off a 43-32 win at New Ulm last Tuesday.
