Minnesota’s leading scorer is battling toe issue

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota coach Richard Pitino says leading scorer Andre Hollins has been playing through a toe injury that may be limiting him as the games wear on.
Pitino revealed the injury on Tuesday, one day before the Golden Gophers are set to host No. 9 Wisconsin. Hollins scored 18 points in the first half at Iowa on Sunday. But he was limited to just two points, and no field goals, in the second half as the Gophers let a 10-point lead slip away.
Pitino says he fears that the discomfort in one of Hollins’ toes gets worse as the game goes on and makes it difficult for him to be as explosive as he is able to be earlier in games.
Pitino expects Hollins to continue to play through the discomfort.
