The Albert Lea seventh-grade girls’ basketball team was presented with an award on Tuesday for being good sports, according to a press release.

The Tigers were honored with the Real Winning Team Award from the Owatonna Basketball Association in partnership with Youth 1st and the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx for outstanding sportsmanship during the Owatonna Basketball Association’s girls’ basketball tournament on Jan. 11 and 12.

More than 60 teams from southern Minnesota participated in the tournament.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to reward the right behavior, not only for the players and coaches but everyone associated with the team: parents, fans and spectators,” said Mark Arjes, the founder and director of Youth 1st. “It’s placing the emphasis on the most important part of youth sports, of the game of basketball.”
