Will it be a winter storm or a spring storm?
Either way, the National Weather Service says “another significant weather system” will arrive tonight across much of Minnesota and stay for Tuesday.
The forecast says it will be a thunderstorm that brings freezing rain, sleet and snow. However, the snowy part will be mostly for neighbors in the Twin Cities and northward. Blizzard conditions are forecast for the Duluth area. A wintry mix is forecast for between the Cities and Owatonna. In Albert Lea, the storm is expected to bring an inch of rain. Gusts are expected to be as high as 26 mph tonight and 30 mph on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued flood warning for Mower County as a result of “runoff from melting snow last week combined with recent rainfall across the area.” Turtle Creek has exceeded flood stage near Austin. It was at 10.8 feet at 4:30 a.m. today. Flood stage is 10.5 feet.
The warning says the creek will crest at 11.8 feet this afternoon and likely will fall below flood stage Tuesday.
