Update: Northwood being evacuated

Northwood is being evacuated as a result of a chemical fire.

Firefighters are battling a chemical fire at a fertilizer plant on property on the grounds of the airport on the east side of town. There are reports of sulfur contamination.

Signs direct residents to Northwood Community Center or fire station.

Residents in the neighborhoods around the airport are being evacuated. Highway 105 was blocked off in the area near the fire.

There is a smell of burning. There are few cars downtown and business have closed signs. A school bus could be seen driving with some people in the bus wearing masks.

Northwood-Kensett schools were already closed in anticipation of blizzard conditions.
