Triathlon changes format

Last year’s Land Between the Lakes Triathlon in Albert Lea turned into a duathlon for 2014, according to a press release.
“It’s in large part due to the severe weather temperatures that deal with hosting an event in mid-May in Minnesota,” said event promoter Ross Williams. “This winter, with ice 32 inches thick, we’re sure to have unsafe water. Hypothermia is nothing to joke about.”
The race will start at 9 a.m. May 18 at Edgewater Park. The start and finish line will be at the middle of the park near the shelter area and restrooms, Williams said.
The race will feature a 2-mile run, a 14-mile bicycle ride and a 3.1-mile run.
The event is not a USA Triathon-sanctioned event, but it is an opportunity for racers to test their skills, Williams said.
Individuals or teams of two or three can compete.
