Janis Seay, 75, Round Rock, Texas

Janis Audrey Haukoos Seay of Round Rock, Texas, died peacefully Thursday morning on Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 75.

Janis was born to Millard and Bernice Haukoos on Aug. 2, 1938, on the family farm, the “80” of Grandfather Peter Andrew Haukoos in Walters. She attended Walters School, grades one through eight, and was voted seventh grade queen in 1951. Janis then attended Kiester High School, where she served as editor of the school paper, student council, choir, band, numerous roles in school plays, and was voted Homecoming Queen her senior year in 1956. Janis was awarded two scholarships, one for art school and one for teaching. Soon after graduating high school, she married Larry Marvin Buschow of Wells, in October 1956, having four children and living in many aerospace industry cities over the next 18 years. Janis was a homemaker, active in church, volunteered in her children’s school activities and pursued a brief career in office and accounts management. In July 2002, Janis married Earl Henry Seay of Round Rock, and continued to be very active at Palm Valley Lutheran Church, where she volunteered in the Esther’s Circle, Quilters, Pastor’s Monday Morning Bible Study, Adult Sunday School, Alter Guild, Vacation Bible School, Bereavement Committee and Churchmen’s Banquet. Janis and Earl volunteered with Meals on Wheels, traveled often, played weekly dominoes with friends and enjoyed socializing with the Sassy Seniors group and Adult’s Night Out.

Janis was preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Seay; father, mother and sister Betty Dylla.

Janis is survived by her children Joni Buschow of Austin, Monte Buschow and wife Karina of League City, Paul Buschow and wife, Andrea, of Hutto, Heather Owens of Round Rock; grandchildren Nathan Lusk and wife Janna, Riva Hardin and husband, Dustin, James Buschow and fiancé, Alejandra, Joshua Beerbower, Andrea Beerbower, Kiera Owens and father Kenny, Erica Buschow, Michael Buschow; great-grandchildren Jonathan, Patrick, Gwendolyn and Genevieve Lusk; siblings Maxine Savick and Patricia Haugh of Albert Lea, Beverly Dylla and husband Leo of Wells, Dennis Haukoos and wife Inez of Lakeville, Ronald Haukoos and wife Mary of Bricelyn, Marcia Shorman and husband Richard of Villa Park.

Janis is known for her tremendous talent in the arts, playing piano, painting, sketching in pencil and inks, listening to classical music, embroidering, baking, gardening, bird watching, writing to friends and family and donating to numerous charities. Janis had a warm spiritual heart and will always be remembered for her charming naiveté, captivating smile and optimistic outlook on life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Janis’ memory to the MDS Foundation (myelodysplastic syndrome).

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Beck Funeral Home, Round Rock/Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., March 7, 2014, in Palm Valley Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Dave Koppel, officiating.

Interment will be in the Palm Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery at the church.
