Funeral services for Eleanor H. Buchanan will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church of Northwood. The Rev. Judy Converse will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at State Line Cemetery following the service.
Eleanor Harriet Buchanan, 96, died Feb. 27, 2014, at Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. She was born on Nov. 19, 1917, in Norway Township in Winnebago County to parents Jake and Inga Oakland. She married Robert Charles Buchanan on Sept. 4, 1937, at the First Methodist Church in Mason City. They had one child: Charles “Skip” Jacob Buchanan on April 20, 1939.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Buchanan, and her son, Charles Jacob Buchanan; her parents Jacob and Inga (Thompson) Oakland; brothers and sisters Lawrence Oakland, Ingabor Broitzman, Norman Oakland, Walter Oakland, Kenneth Oakland, George Oakland and Robert Oakland. Sisters-in-law Carol Oakland, Delores Oakland, Helen Oakland and brother-in-law Martin Broitzman.
Eleanor is survived by her sisters Ealine Hill and Idella Hinds; granddaughters Cynthia (Steve) Lynch of Thornton, Colo., Christine (Philipp Theune) Buchanan of Denver, and LeAnn (Larry) Hunt of Fredricksburg, Va; grandsons Doug Buchanan of Chandler, Ariz., Charles (Julie) Buchanan of Denver and Jacob (Kara) Buchanan of New Jersey; her great-grandchildren Nicole Buchanan and Erik Miller, Kirstine Buchanan and Fabrice Tacorante, Stephanie and Adam Willis, Ryan and Chelsea Lynch, Cassie and Frederick White, Brittanie Lynch and Derek Jones, Collette and James Tejada, Alex Lynch and Lauren Harrower, Nathan Buchanan, Gabrielle Hunt, Hannah Hunt, Oscar Buchanan, Sadie Buchanan and Melody Buchanan, Kaitlyn Buchanan, Connor Buchanan, Maddie Buchanan and Gavin Buchanan; her great-great-grandchildren Addison Miller, Izzabella Lynch, River Tejada, Lauren Miller, Annarose Buchanan, Callum Tejada and Violet Sloan Willis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
