Albert Lea residents awoke to at least 10 inches of new snow this morning after another storm swept through the area Tuesday night.

The area was in a winter weather advisory but had only been forecasted to receive 3 to 4 inches, said meteorologist Tony Zaleski with National Weather Service’s Chanhassen bureau.

Several area schools were slated to start two hours late, including Alden-Conger, Glenville-Emmons, Northwood-Kensett and Lake Mills Community Schools.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported fair and difficult travel conditions across southern Minnesota.

The forecast for today calls for a high in the lower 20s with a low of about 10 degrees tonight. Thursday is expected to be cloudy and breezy with a sound wind of 15 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph. The high is expected to reach 30.

There is a 30 percent chance of freezing drizzle on Friday.
