An Alden-Conger graduate was recognized for making an impact on the basketball court.
Taylor Martin, a 2013 graduate of Alden-Conger High School and freshman on Hibbing Community College’s women’s basketball team, was a Second Team All-Conference selection for Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.
“She had a very good season,” said Hibbing head coach Mike Turnbull.
Martin’s 14-point scoring average was 10th in the conference, and her 9.6 rebounds per game was third in the conference. Martin’s field goal percentage of .428 was eighth in the conference.
Martin was one of two freshmen from Hibbing to be recognized on the three five-player teams that were selected.
Hibbing’s Christina Wickingson of Mason, Wis., was also a Second-Team selection. Wickingson averaged 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Both totals were in the top five of the conference.
Before she played at Hibbing, Martin scored 421 points as a senior on the Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team and averaged 16.2 points per game along with 8.6 rebounds per game.
After the Knights finished 10-15 her junior year, Martin led Alden-Conger to win 10 of its first 11 games and compile a season record of 19-7.
The Hibbing women’s basketball team will play National Junior College Athletic Association’s national tournament Thursday through Saturday.
