In answer to letter on Feb. 21 blasting my letter on Feb. 6, I would like to make the following rebuttal. The heading was “Fallacies weaken letter argument.”

It accuses me of thinking this country needs more welfare. I don’t believe this country needs more welfare. I am concerned at which direction the welfare goes. Liberals believe that it should go to the less fortunate and the Republicans believe it should go to the most fortunate. It’s just a matter of economics.

If you give welfare to the most fortunate, it most likely will go into some tax shelter either here or overseas. If you give it to the less fortunate, they look for a place to spend it and whatever they purchase creates a demand for that product. This creates jobs and everyone up the ladder makes money. The government receives taxes on this dollar every time it changes hands all the way up the ladder and sometimes gets back more than it gave. It is the demand for a product that creates jobs.

If you watch “Shark Tank” on TV you will notice that the first thing those sharks look for is the demand for that product. This country is not going to turn around until we redistribute the wealth from the most fortunate to the less fortunate and that is what is good for the economy.

By the way, the pope and I don’t agree on everything. If I agreed with everything he says, I would be a Catholic. I don’t know if you understand this or not. You have to have a little common sense to figure this out. Can you think of anything that you and the pope agree on?

In your letter you write I am not going to “educate” any far-right, Tea Party Republicans unless I can present my case with logic and rationality. Until I can you will continue to view my  “common sense” as nonsense. I guess I talk way over your head. I try to use as much layman’s language as possible so everyone understands my views.

Now I wish you would address why my friend who is under assisted medical care has to go to Rochester to get dental care because no dentist in Albert Lea will accept his insurance. I am not going to spend any time explaining to you what working for slave wages means. The 70 percent of the people who know the meaning have enough common sense to figure this out.

By the way I can feel the blood just curdling in your far-right, Tea Party Republican stomach when I thank you for taking the time to read my letters. It really gives me a good feeling. Thanks again.
