ST. PAUL — The University of Minnesota is honoring one of the state’s best-known climatologists, an agribusiness CEO and a turfgrass farmer as this year’s recipients of the prestigious Siehl Prize for Excellence in Agriculture.

The $50,000 prize is awarded in three categories: knowledge, agribusiness and production agriculture. The knowledge prize goes to Mark Seeley, a professor considered the go-to source of information about Minnesota’s weather and climate.

The agribusiness prize goes to Tom Rosen, CEO of Rosen’s Diversified Inc. in Fairmont, an international company known for meat processing, agricultural chemicals and companion animal products.

Richard Magnusson gets the Siehl Prize for production agriculture. His family farm in northwestern Minnesota has worked to ensure the success of the grass seed industry and donated 40 acres to the university for a research farm.
