Don’t judge minimum wage from on high

In answer to the letter written March 30 titled “Welfare takes from the earners” attacking my letter March 14 titled “Demand is what creates jobs, sir,” I make the following rebuttal.

It is obvious you are the typical far-right, Tea Party Republican. You think any excessive money the government has should go to the upper crust in tax breaks, tax loopholes etc. Nothing should go to the hard-working packinghouse worker or ditch digger who have lost their jobs for no fault of their own. They have been paying taxes all their lives, too. You know that even fast food workers working for minimum wages pay taxes, also. You don’t know what it is like to lose your job after working 25 years and getting laid off. You don’t even know what it is like to work for minimum wage.  You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and had everything given to you, including an education. You have never worked for a minimum wage in your life.

Yet you think that the position you are in today is “I made it big so anybody else can do the same.” There is no doubt you have never had to apply for unemployment in your life. I don’t know how you can judge someone who has. In your letter, you accuse me of not being able to make my case. What case are you talking about? Everybody I talked to understood everything I said.

I think it is appalling that people in your position think that raising the minimum wage is ridiculous. Have you noticed the people in fast food places are not high school kids anymore. They are grownups trying raise a family on a minimum wage. These are the only jobs they can find. It is obvious you haven’t been in this position. I think it is so great that President Barack Obama is thinking about these people. I find it great that you want to attack me. I feel like a hero.  You are leaving Obama alone.

Republican Congress have done everything you can think of to hurt his administration. I have requested in my previous letters that a Republican write a letter on what any Republican congressman has ever done for an Average Joe. Maybe you can mention this in your next letter. This Republican Congress hasn’t done anything in the last six years except filibuster over 400 times against Obama’s bills he tried to get through.

In closing, I would like to repeat again what President Harry Truman said. “If you want to live like a Republican you had better vote Democrat.”

For you who don’t know it, you can go online and put in Albert Lea Tribune and hit Opinions and then Letters to the Editor to get all the old letters that have been published. This will help you understand what’s being argued about now and you can make up your mind as to who ought to be ashamed of themselves.
