50 years ago: 1964

• Paul Wilke, the Albert Lea tennis coach, greeted four returning letter winners at the start of practice. They were Barry Oberg, Ted Unseth, Tom Butsch and Gary Olson.

• John Lair, Allan Rasmussen, Paul Monson, Gary Iverson, Paul Yost, Tom Haas, Owen Wasmoen and Lynn Yost were returning letter winners for the Emmons High School baseball team.

 

25 years ago: 1989

• Named to the All-Border Division of the Southern Minny Girls’ League from South Central High School were Laura Berkeland, Kay Molskness and Kirstin Hugdahl. Receiving honorable mention were Jodi Stallkamp and Jessica Hill.

• The Pour Boys One pool team won the 1989-90 Independent League title and the 1988-89 American League title in Albert Lea. Team members were Randy Brackey, Brad Mehuse, Denny Larson, Doug DeBoer, Pat Bozer, Randy Nielson, Terry Picha, Scott Claussen and Naomi Herrera.

• Ed Stalker, coach of the Albert Lea baseball team, opened practice with the following players: Mike Schiltz, Dan Jesse, Troy Hanson, Tom Vandenheuvel, Tom Butts, Pete Christian, Phil Adams, John Balk, Kyle Werner, Justin Matson, Tom Slegh, Tim Hoyt, Dave Nystrom, Troy Weitzel and Brad Kranz.

• Lou Rich won the Albert Lea City Basketball B League title. Team members were Blane Hammer, Scott Woitas, Doug Fenk, John Heidal, John Christianson, Steve Enderson, Randy Thoschtan, Jon Munson and Randy Sipple.

 

10 years ago: 2004

• Named to the Big Nine All-Conference wrestling team from Albert Lea were Zach Hansen, Eric Johnson, Matt Morris, Adam Elseth, Brandon Klukow, Cory Frerk, Randy Larson and Chris Hable.

• The Alden-Conger softball team opened its season behind the three-hit pitching of Steph Lackey to defeat Faribault Bethlehem Academy 1-0.

• Named to the Big Nine All-Conference girls’ basketball team from Albert Lea was Danielle Rankin. Receiving honorable mention was freshman Cara Thorn.

• The NRHEG softball team opened its season with a 7-5 victory over Randolph. Kayla Reed, Chelsey Quiram, Betsy Waldhauser and Lindsey Espe each had one hit for NRHEG.
