First Team

Spencer Tollefson, NRHEG junior guard

Both years Tollefson has been a starter for the Panthers he’s averaged more than 14 points per game and been selected to the Tribune’s All-Area First Team. His scoring average went up 2.2 points per game after scoring 14.2 points per game as a sophomore. Tollefson led the area in scoring, was second in assists (3.7 per game), tied for seventh in steals (1.4) and 10th in rebounding (5.9).

Hunter Kingland, Lake Mills, senior guard

Kingland led Lake Mills to a 16-7 overall record and third place in the North Iowa Conference standings. He was third in the area in scoring with an average of 15.4 points per game. He dished out 3.8 assists per game, which led the area and was third in steals (1.7) and seventh in rebounding (6.2). Kingland was a North Iowa First Team All-Conference selection. He was a Second Team All-Area selection last season with a scoring average of 13.7 points per game.

 

Oakley Baker, NRHEG, freshman guard

Baker proved to be a force on the court in his first year on the Panthers’ varsity team. He was second in the area with 15.6 points per game, and he earned Gopher All-Conference accolades. Baker made the Tribune’s top 10 list in assists with an average of 2.6 per game. He also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game. Baker excelled from 3-point range. He hit 67 of 151 shots from downtown for an average of 44 percent.

 

Nate Pederson, USC, junior guard

Pederson averaged a team-high 13.9 points per game to lead the Rebels. His scoring average was fourth in the area. Pederson was second in the area in steals with 1.9 per game, and he tied Northwood-Kensett’s Josh Einertson with 2.1 assists per game, which was seventh in the area. He also contributed on the glass with 5.5 rebounds per game. Pederson led the Rebels to a Subsection 2A crown on March 5 in a win over No. 2-ranked Mountain Lake Area.

 

Steve Voigt, USC, senior forward

Voigt led the Rebels and the area on the glass. He averaged 9.8 rebounds per game and missed averaging a double-double by 0.2 boards. Voigt tied Third Team All-Area selection Josh Einertson of Northwood-Kensett with 12.4 points per game, which was ninth in the area standings. Voigt shined in the postseason. He averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game before he was sidelined with a Jones fracture in his foot.

 

Second Team

Kevin Kalis, NRHEG, junior forward

Kalis was one rebound away from averaging a double-double. As a sophomore, Kalis averaged nine points and 7.2 rebounds per game, and he was selected to the All-Area Third Team. This year, his scoring production went up 3.8 points per game and his rebounding average stayed the same. Kalis was one of four Panthers to finish in the area’s top seven in scoring. His average of nine rebounds per game was second in the area.

 

Eli Hallman, Alden-Conger, junior guard

Hallman was the Knights leading scorer with 13.2 points per game, which was fifth in the area. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He led the Knights to a 7-18 overall record after they finished 3-21 last season.

 

Luke Trio, USC, junior guard

Trio guided the Rebels offense from the top of the key and stepped up at a pivotal point in the season. He buried a 3-pointer with 2 minutes and 34 seconds left in the Subsection 2A final to lead the Rebels to a win over Mountain Lake Area. He made the Tribune’s top 10 list in scoring (12.5 points per game), assists (2.7) and steals (1.4).

 

Derek Van Ryswyk, Glenville-Emmons, freshman forward

Van Ryswyk was the Wolverines’ top scoring threat, and he excelled on the glass. He averaged 11.8 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game, which was fifth in the Southeast Conference and fourth in the area. He drained 74 3-pointers on the season and shot 37 percent from beyond the arc. He was one of two freshman to be a Southeast All-Conference selection.

 

Trevor Tracy, NRHEG, junior guard

Tracy made the Tribune’s top 10 list in two categories: scoring and assists. Despite being third on NRHEG’s team in scoring, his average of 12.9 points per game was sixth in the Tribune’s seven-team coverage area. He nailed a team-high 75 3-pointers and was 42 percent from beyond the arc. Tracy’s average of 2.9 assists per game was third in the area.

 

Third Team

Josh Einertson, Northwood-Kensett, sophomore guard

After leading the Vikings to the state playoffs from behind center in the fall, Einertson led the Northwood-Kensett boys’ basketball team with 12.4 points per game. His scoring average was tied with Steve Voigt of United South Central for ninth in the area. He also cracked the Tribune’s top 10 lists in steals per game (1.5) and assists (2.1).

 

Tesloch Kuey, Albert Lea, senior guard

Kuey was the only player in the area to average more than two steals per game. He was the Tigers’ most consistent threat beyond the arc with 27 made 3-pointers. Kuey averaged 8.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game in his first season as a starter.

 

Jacob Wallin, Alden-Conger, sophomore center

Wallin provided a strong presence on the interior of the Knights offense. He was one of four players in the area to average more than eight points and eight rebounds per game. Wallin also averaged one steal and 0.4 assists per game.

 

Josh Peters, Lake Mills, junior guard

Peters was one of three Lake Mills players who averaged double-digit scoring. He posted 11.5 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals. Peterson was part of a solid backcourt for the Bulldogs led by Hunter and Granger Kingland.

 

Cody Scherff, Albert Lea, senior forward

Scherff fought through a skull fracture to lead Albert Lea on the glass with 6.1 rebounds per game, which was ninth in the area. He also averaged 8.5 points, 1.5 assists and 0.6 steals per game. Scherff led the Tigers in free throw percentage (72), free throw attempts (123) and assists (40).
