After a promising start, the Albert Lea softball team’s momentum was stunted by errors Friday at home against Waseca.
The Blue Jays defeated the Tigers 5-1 to give Albert Lea its third straight loss.
Megan Kortan scored Albert Lea’s lone run in the first inning. After receiving a base on balls, she advanced to third on a base hit by Lynzee Underdahl. Kortan crossed home plate on a throwing error by Waseca’s catcher.
The Blue Jays tied the game in the top of the fourth and added four more runs in the sixth.
“We had some fielding and base-running mental mistakes. They know it, and it’s tough to deal with,” said Albert Lea coach Dan Harms. “The girls have to find a way to grind these wins out.”
Taylor Thompson led Albert Lea by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base. Underdahl was 2-for-4, and Kortan and Haley Harms each had one hit.
Both teams used one pitcher pitch the entire game, and they finished with similar stat lines. Harms gave up one fewer hit and three fewer walks. Waseca’s Mackenzie Madsen struck out one additional batter and gave up three fewer earned runs.
The Tigers (2-5 overall, 1-4 Big Nine Conference) will look to rebound at 5 p.m. Tuesday at home against Winona. When the two teams met on April 11 at Winona, the Winhawks won 10-4.
