USC/A-C places 3rd in opener

The United South Central/Alden-Conger Rebels boys’ and girls’ track and field teams placed third Saturday in their season-opening meet in Hutchinson.
The girls finished with 112 points behind first-place Cambridge-Isanti (134.5) and second-place Hutchinson (128.5).
The girls set indoor track and field school records in five events including Ariel Keller in the 55-meter dash (7.6 seconds), Hannah Goemann in the 1,600-meter run (5:42.1), Amanda Allis in the shot put (36 feet 2.25 inches), Goemann in the high jump (5 feet) and the 4×200-meter relay team of Linsey Thisius, Allie Voigt, Lorraine Christenson and Anissa Janzig (11:19.4).
The boys team finished third with 95.5 points, just 1/2 point behind second-place Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet. Cambridge-Isanti ran away with first place with 146 points.
Seth Treptow won the 55-meter high hurdles in 8.2 seconds and the 55-meter intermediate hurdles in 7.8 seconds.
Tony Willette placed first in the shot put by throwing 45 feet 3.25 inches and the 4×400-meter relay team of Thane O’Rourke, Teddy Wiebold, Seth Treptow and Tyler Lackey placed first in 3:47.4.
“I think we learned a lot,” Rebels boys and girls coach Kent Viesselman said.
The Rebels will compete again at 9 a.m. Saturday against Fairmont, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, Albert Lea and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at Minnesota-State University-Mankato.
