Albert Lea baseball player enjoys hunting deer and pheasants
Q: What school do you attend?
A: I’m a junior at Albert Lea High School.
Q: Who is in your immediate family?
A: My mom and dad are Elly and Tom Chicos, and I have a brother, Spencer, who is 14.
Q: What sports do you play?
A: Hockey and baseball.
Q: What positions do you play?
A: In hockey, I play forward. In baseball, I’ve played one game at first base and been a designated hitter. I’ve been playing for about 10 years, and I started as a catcher.
Q: What’s your favorite part about playing first base?
A: You don’t field a lot of ground balls, but you have to be mentally in the game and prepared when the ball is thrown to you.
Q: What has playing baseball taught you?
A: It’s taught me discipline and responsibility.
Q: What number are you?
A: No. 11.
Q: How did you get started playing baseball?
A: My friends and I played when we were young, and I just stuck with it because it was fun, and I liked it.
Q: What is your favorite part of playing baseball?
A: It’s a great time to have fun with your friends, hang out and play baseball.
Q: What sports did your family members play?
A: My dad played baseball, and my brother still plays. Spencer plays catcher and third base for the Albert Lea eighth-grade team.
Q: What are your college plans?
A: I’m planning on going to the University of Minnesota for business finance.
Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?
A: I like watching Joe Mauer. He’s a great hitter who is also a catcher.
Q: What is your favorite school subject?
A: I like math. I’m taking precalculus right now.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher?
A: My TigerVision teacher, Max Jeffrey, and my math teacher, Kevin Gentz.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I play baseball and hockey and hang out with friends. I also like hunting, fishing and spending time with my family.
Q: What do you hunt?
A: Deer and pheasants.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: I’d like to be an accountant.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: “Cops.”
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I like shrimp and mashed potatoes.
Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A: I have a labradoodle (dog) named Dixie.
