Memorial services for Robert Gaylon (Gerber) Peterson of Albert Lea will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be held at a later date in the Sion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Northwood.
Robert “Bob” Peterson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Mayo Health System in Albert Lea. He was but 61 years of age.
Robert was born June 21, 1952, in Albert Lea, the son of Gilman and Martha (Simon) Peterson. He attended public school in Brownsdale and Emmons before graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1970.
On Sept. 16, 1972, Bob married Virginia Henderson at the Sion Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. Bob and “Ginny” had one son who tragically preceded him in death in 1996.
After working many years at Wilson and later Farmstead, his career ended with Larson Manufacturing Co. in Albert Lea. Bob was always a hard worker and might be remembered most for his devotion to his job.
Bob was naturally inquisitive, and in his free time enjoyed puzzles, reading, and “figuring things out.” In another life, he may very well have been an inventor. He had a very witty sense of humor.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Virginia; three brothers, Ervin (Mary) Gerber of Walters, Gordon Peterson of Lake Mills and Merlyn Peterson of Albert Lea; two sisters, Helen (David) McNary of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Darlene Holdgrafer of Twin Lakes, and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is a very special sister-in-law, Terry Cunningham, acting as his “guardian angel.”
Awaiting him in his next life are both of his parents, Gilman and Martha Peterson; both of his parents-in-law, Thomas and Ida Henderson; son, Brandon Peterson; two nieces, Krystal and Kristina Henderson, and nephew, Jaydon Henderson.
