The Austin Bruins had to settle for second place.

The Bruins had their season end on a 6-2 loss Saturday at Fairbanks in game two of the Robertson Cup Finals.

“We were really good in the first period,” Austin head coach Chris Tok said. “The second period started pretty good, but then it seemed like it steam rolled and we weren’t able to stop it. It rolled like a tidal wave and that was kind of it.”

Austin goalie Nick Lehr had 22 saves in his final game with the Bruins. Lehr will play at the University of Minnesota next season.

“Nick did a fabulous job. He’s been our backbone this year and he’s made some huge strides to become the person and player that he is,” Tok said. “Both he and Kody Reuter have matured into some pretty good young men that will do great in life.”

This season was the best season in the Bruins’ four-year history as the team played in its first Robertson Cup Finals and it beat Bismarck in a playoff series for the first time.
