The competition was dismantled by the Albert Lea girls’ golf team Thursday in a triangular at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
The Tigers finished the rain-shortened nine-hole course in 190 strokes. Faribault finished in second place — 43 strokes behind Albert Lea — and Rochester Century took third with 244.
“We had a good practice yesterday, and I think that translated to the good scores,” said Albert Lea coach Shawn Riebe. “All of the scores for today were improved.”
Chelsey Battle led Albert Lea by shooting a 44. Mady Dahl shot a 46, Samantha Nielsen a 48 and Cammy Tewes a 52.
“I think we know we can play to this level, but we struggle to find it consistently,” Riebe said. “If we can keep this up, we can compete with most teams in the postseason. We need to keep coming down, but we’re moving in the right direction.”
Before the section tournament, Albert Lea has three more meets. They’re all on the road. Next, the Tigers will swing at 3:30 p.m. Monday against Rochester Mayo at Eastwood Golf Course.
