Grizzlies suffer 1st loss of season

The Albert Lea Grizzlies lost their first game of the season 37-12 Saturday against the Midwest Rampage in Webster City, Iowa, according to a press release.
The Grizzlies were held to 172 yards offensively. Albert Lea quarterback Tony Tolbers was 8-for-20 through the air with 96 yards and a touchdown. Running back Lamar Sayles led the ground attack with five carries for 67 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown in the first quarter on third and short. Trent Leesch lead the Grizzlies’ receiving corps. with four catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.
After trailing 14-6 at the end of the first quarter, Albert Lea was out scored 23-6 in the final three quarters. Five turnovers for the Grizzlies helped seal the win for the Rampage.
With 6 minutes, 38 seconds left in the third quarter, the game was delayed for an hour due to lightning. When play resumed, the Grizzlies cut their deficit to 34-12. A late field goal by the Rampage ended the game 37-12.
Defensively, Trevor Haugh lead the Grizzlies with 11 tackles. Kaelyn Kohtz added four solo tackles and nine assists. Jared Talamantes continued steady play at cornerback by recording his second interception of the season. Adam Bengtson also recorded an interception.
Next, the Grizzlies host the defending Southern Plains Football League champion — the South Central Hawgs — at 5 p.m. Saturday. All home games are at Grizzly Field at Frank Hall Park.
