Family: wife, Jen; son, Jack (11 months)
Interesting fact: He has restored and owns a 1963 Imperial LeBaron and a 1972 Dodge Charger.
Ace is the place — Ace Auto Sales, that is — where Jeff Zoller continues the legacy of his family’s involvement with selling cars and other vehicles.
This legacy is based in part on his father, Charles, being in business with Ace Auto Sales for 28 years. Another part comes from his mother being a part of the Linnes family that was involved with Linnes-Weiler Motors on Frank Avenue (now the location of Johnson Heating & Air Conditioning).
Zoller is a 2001 graduate of Albert Lea High School, or as he explained, “Half my senior year was in the old building and half was in the new building.”
This was followed with a two-year program in automotive technology at Riverland Community College.
He recalls working with his father at Ace Auto Sales when the car firm was located at 1816 E. Main St. behind a Laundromat and across from The Trumbles. The firm really expanded in December 2004 with a move to the present location at 2517 N. Bridge Ave.
“Now we have room for a lot more cars. There’s space for 80 to 100 cars; right now we have 65 vehicles,” he said.
“Our main line is buying and selling used cars, plus pickups, SUVs and vans. We’re not a repair shop, but do work on our own vehicles,” he added.
Zoller, who has been married for seven years, said a lot of his spare time now involves taking care of his 11-month-old son Jack.
“I like anything involving cars, like to drive and look at them, but I never got into racing,” he declared.
“My main job here is selling. I also handle the advertising. In fact, we do it all,” Zoller said.
At the present time Ace has four full time and several part-time employees.
During the years Zoller said he has learned a lot from local men associated with other dealerships and automotive activities who retired and ended their careers at Ace Auto Sales. Four of these men he specifically mentioned are Andy Tatarek, Lu Ryan, Jack Ruud and Adrian Linnes.
“I enjoy work and try not to be high pressure. We just have a good time,” he concluded.
There are two entrances to Ace Auto Sales. One is off the Airport Road and the second is just to the west of Raleigh’s Ace Hardware.
