CLEVELAND — A veteran museum leader has been named the new director of the Cleveland Museum of Art, replacing the previous director who resigned after misleading officials about an affair with a museum employee.
A statement says William Griswold will begin work at the museum this fall. He is currently the director of the Morgan Library & Museum in New York and has previously held positions at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Previous director David Franklin resigned in October after museum officials learned he had lied about an extramarital affair with a museum staffer, who left the museum and later killed herself.
The museum recently completed a $350 million renovation and expansion.
