JORDAN — After taking second place at the Subsection 2AA South tournament, the Albert Lea girls’ golf team took third Tuesday at the section tournament at The Ridges at Sand Creek.
“It was a pretty good round for us this year and a nice way to end the season,” said Albert Lea coach Shawn Riebe.
The Tigers completed the course with a score of 385.
Samantha Nielsen led Albert Lea in both tournaments this postseason. She took third place overall at the subsection meet by shooting a 90 at North Links Golf Course in Mankato, and she posted a 94 at sections.
Riebe said Nielsen was tied for the final state-qualifying spot and fell short in a playoff.
Chelsey Battle and Mady Dahl tied with a score of 96 to fill Albert Lea’s No. 2 scoring spot, and Cammy Tewes shot a 99 to round out the scoring.
Battle, Tewes and Dahl were seniors this season.
Battle earned Big Nine All-Conference honors by shooting an 87 to take fifth place overall at the conference tournament on May 22 at Owatonna Country Club.
