Weekend Planner: Kids triathlon boasts physical activity and fun

Kids can have fun while being active during the Land Between the Lakes Kids Triathlon.
The Land Between the Lakes Kids Triathlon will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the Albert Lea Aquatic Center.
The triathlon will have one leg each of swimming, biking and running. Children ages 7 to 14 can sign up.
Seven to 8-year-olds will swim two widths, bike one mile and run a quarter of a mile. Nine to 10-year-olds will swim three widths, bike two miles and run a half a mile. Eleven to 12-year-olds will swim two lengths, bike three miles and run three quarters of a mile. Thirteen to 14-year-olds will swim three lengths, bike four miles and run one mile.
Life jackets are permissible; helmets are required. The race can be done as a relay team.
The swimming leg will take place at the pool under the supervision of certified lifeguards. The biking leg will be on the Blazing Star Trail. The running leg will be by the boat landing and old water treatment plant.
The race will finish at the city pool parking lot. Spectators can watch from the poolside and along the sides of the biking and running trails.
All participants will receive a T-shirt and all finishers receive a medal. There will be snacks and refreshments after the finish line.
The entry fee is $14 per participant or $42 per relay team. Registration forms can be found at the Albert Lea YMCA website.

Friday
• Enjoy pizza and a cruise with Pelican Breeze II. The cost is $20 per person. The cruise will meet at Frank Hall Park. Reservations need to be made by 4 p.m. Friday by calling 507-383-7273.
• Seniors from Albert Lea High School will graduate at 7 p.m. at Albert Lea High School, 2000 Tiger Lane.
Saturday
• Buy fresh produce, baked goods, jams, sauces and more at the Albert Lea Farmers Market. The market will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Northbridge Mall parking lot, 2510 Bridge Ave.
• Experience the joy of fishing with Take a Kid Fishing Day. People 16 or older who take a child 15 or younger fishing at Edgewater Bay on Saturday can fish without a license. Free rods and reels are handed out. Take a Kid Fishing Day will be 9 a.m. to noon at Edgewater Park.
• Ruby’s Pantry food distribution will be 10 a.m. to noon at Albert Lea Assembly of God Church, 1540 S. Shore Drive. Bring two large boxes or laundry baskets for groceries. Cost is $20.
• Enjoy belly dancing in the park with Free Sample Saturdays. Belly dancing will be 10 to 11 a.m. at the Edgewater Park Bandshell.
• The Joyce Matthies Dance Recital will be 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.
Sunday
• Enjoy breakfast and more with the Cloverleaf and Lakeview Lions annual Flight Breakfast from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, ham, eggs, milk and coffee will be served. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under and free for pilots in command. The breakfast will be at the Albert Lea Municipal Airport, 400 Airport Road.
• The Albert Lea American Legion will be serving pancakes, sausages, potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without ham, fruit cups, juice, milk and coffee from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $7 and the breakfast will be at the legion, 147 N. Broadway Ave.
• Kids can see their favorite vehicles and spend time with hometown heroes at Touch-A-Truck. This event is free and family friendly. Touch-A-Truck will be 9 a.m. to noon at the Albert Lea Municipal Airport, 400 Airport Road.
• See the sights of Albert Lea Lake with the Pelican Breeze II public cruise. The cost is $10 per person. The cruise starts at 1:30 p.m. but attendees should be at Frank Hall Park by 1:15 p.m. A minimum of 10 attendees required for the cruise to sail.
