Albert Lea police stop 123 vehicles during campaign

Albert Lea police officers stopped 123 vehicles for various traffic law infractions during a stepped-up enforcement campaign the last half of May.

The campaign, which went from May 19 through June 1, was part of a national enforcement effort targeting seat belt and car seat use, according to a news release.

Of the drivers stopped, eight drivers were cited for failing to use or properly use their seat belts.

Police cited 11 drivers for driving without a license or a license that had been withdrawn.

Two drivers were arrested for impaired driving. One of these drivers struck the railroad tracks at Seventh Street and Broadway.

One driver was stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign. This driver had a revoked driver’s license and was found in possession of methamphetamine. A search warrant on the vehicle produced 252 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $25,000. Nearly $6,000 in cash was also seized from this stop.

The Albert Lea Police Department participates in Towards Zero Deaths. This is a statewide campaign that combines emergency medical services, enforcement, engineering and education to move Minnesota towards zero traffic fatalities.
