A motorcyclist was flown to a Rochester hospital Sunday when he sustained injuries in a crash with a pickup on the Bath road north of Albert Lea.
Albert Cole Winter, 42, of Blooming Prairie was not wearing a helmet, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office. The law enforcement agency described his injuries as life threatening. The hospital reports Winter being in intensive care but would not release his status.
A Sheriff’s Office report said Steven Judean Thompson, 47, of Albert Lea was driving a gray Ford pickup northbound on Freeborn County Road 20 and started to make a left turn onto County Road 25 when his truck and Winter’s southbound motorcycle collided.
Thompson was uninjured. Winter was flown to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester by helicopter.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Gold Cross Ambulance, Manchester Fire, Albert Lea Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol is not known to be a factor.
