Weekend Planner: On your marks, get set, glow! Night run is set
Published 10:25 am Thursday, June 12, 2014
The electrifying colors of the UV Splash Color Dash come to Albert Lea this Saturday.
This 5-kilometer run is similar to the popular Color Run, where runners in white T-shirts are blasted with color powder that leaves them covered in a rainbow of colors.
The UV Splash Color Dash is a little bit different. The run/walk takes place at night and involves 100 percent non-toxic colored UV water. There are a handful of black light stations throughout the course of the run and runners will be sprayed with this water. That’s when the night will come to life.
This colored water will glow under the black lights and the UV Splash Color Dash website promises that the night will be so bright you won’t need a nightlight.
The UV Splash Color Dash is being organized by the Rotary Club of Albert Lea. The Rotary has been involved in the community for over 90 years with fundraising and community service. Proceeds from the run will go to the Halverson Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization.
Packet pickup is 8 p.m., and the dash begins at 10 p.m. at the North Broadway parking lot. The Pre-Splash party begins at 9 p.m. with live music and contests. There will be an After-Splash party at 112 Broadway Ave.
Teams can register for $35, individuals can register for $40 and families can register for $85. There is no age limit. Participants can register at uvsplashcolordash.com by clicking on the Albert Lea location on the front page.
Registration includes a white T-shirt, a glow necklace and a swag bag. Family registration includes two T-shirts and three glow necklaces. The Dash will go on rain or shine, as long as weather conditions are safe.
