The governor will be at Edgewater Bay Pavilion for a ceremonial bill signing at 1 p.m. It is for the state dedicating $7.5 million from the 2014 construction bill to the $15 million dredging of Fountain Lake, which is slated to begin in 2015 if permitting goes smoothly.

The other $7.5 million will come from a local-option sales tax. The dredging will be done by the Shell Rock River Watershed District.

The public is welcome to attend the bill signing. Officials from the state, city and watershed district will be on hand.

Dayton signed the actual bill May 20. It was part of a $1.1 billion package of construction projects, many of which were funded through bonding dollars.

Dayton’s original bonding bill proposal, which came out in January, did not have Fountain Lake’s dredging in it. The effort gained momentum after strong lobbying by local officials as well as by state Rep. Shannon Savick, who managed to get the $7.5 million request funded through the House version of the bill.

The state funds will go toward engineering, design, permitting and land acquisition for the sediment removal.
