A lack of errors propelled the Albert Lea Knights 10AAA baseball team to victory in its first game of the Albert Lea Knights Baseball Classic.
“We have a young group of boys, and this is our first clean game,” said Knights coach Brad Fjelsta. “They’re coming around. This is what it’s all about.”
The Knights (3-8 overall) shut out Northfield 6-0 Friday on Day 1 of the three-day tournament at Snyder Fields.
Will Steene started the scoring by hitting a two-RBI single in the second inning. Steene, who came into the game with a slugging percentage of .870, also pitched for the Knights along with Brennen Bakken and Carter Enger.
Fjelsta said pitchers are allowed to throw three innings per game, five innings per day and eight innings per weekend.
Look for results from Saturday and Sunday of the tournament in Monday’s Tribune.
Pool play continued for Albert Lea on Saturday against Forest Lake and Mahtomedi. The Knights will finish pool play at 8 a.m. today against Eagan and have a chance to play in bracket play at 2 p.m. today.
The Albert Lea Knights 10A team was scheduled to play Friday as well. However, Waseca did not show up. The Knights won by forfeit 1-0.
