St. Ted’s Masquerade Ball

Published 9:45 am Saturday, April 2, 2011

The annual auction event for St. Theodore Catholic School will be on April 9 at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club, which is a new location for the auction.

The event starts with a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., and the silent auction also begins at 6 and ends at 7:45 p.m. A sit-down dinner and raffle for desserts is from 7 to 7:45 p.m. A live auction starts at 8 p.m., and the cash raffle drawing will be at 9 p.m.

“It’s a great fundraiser for our school,” The Rev. Jim Berning said of the auction. “We look forward to having it at the Wedgewood Cove.”

Russ Nemec, auction coordinator, said the auction has outgrown the venues they’ve used in the past, and he expects a full banquet room for this year’s auction as well.

“We thought it’d be a nice change,” Nemec said.

Anyone in the community is invited to come to the event that raises money for the parent-school association. Nemec said the association has helped the school buy anything from desks to computers in the past.

“It’s nice when we can physically see what fundraising does,” Nemec said.

Nemec said there is a wide variety of items up for auction. The silent auction includes everything from quilts and baskets of goodies to jewelry or golf passes. Items in the live auction include potted plants, the front pew of the church on holidays, dinners, a weekend for four in the Twin Cities and much more.

During the sit-down meal there will be a raffle for desserts that are already prepared. The cash raffle will have drawings starting at 9 p.m. There are nine cash prizes including a top prize of $1,000, and only 2,000 tickets are being sold. Tickets are $5 and are available at the school or from parents of students.

“It’s going to be a great night,” Nemec said. “It’s a good time for the community to come together.”

Nemec said the decorating committee is busy working on the masquerade ball theme for the auction. He also said to get tickets early because they’re going fast, and he hopes people come out to show support for the school.

“It’s for a good cause,” Nemec said.
