Brief closures planned of Interstate 90, Highway 61

Motorists on Interstate 90 eastbound and Highway 61 near the Dresbach Bridge will be delayed briefly as crews install sign trusses and digital message signs today and Tuesday night, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
I-90 eastbound will be closed at 11 p.m. today for crews to install the sign truss. Traffic will be stopped for about 15 minutes while the work is done. Then the highway will be re-opened. Approximately 45 minutes later, I-90 eastbound will be closed again while the digital message sign is installed. Traffic will resume after that work is completed and it’s safe for motorists to proceed.
Highway 61 northbound and southbound near I-90 will close briefly at 11 p.m. During the second closure 45 minutes later only northbound Highway 61 will be closed for the sign installation. It’s possible that traffic on southbound Highway 61 could back up onto eastbound I-90 during the first closure.
It’s part of the ongoing work at the Dresbach Bridge, a $187 million project to replace the current Mississippi River bridge with two separate bridges parallel and upstream from the existing bridge. The work is expected to run through 2016. Currently, the traveler information center and rest area is closed. Motorists seeking to travel on southbound Highway 61 via westbound I-90 must follow a detour.
