The issue of allowing people in same-sex relationships to serve as pastors is expected to dominate attention at the national convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The ELCA’s convention starts Monday at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Delegates of the largest Lutheran denomination will decide whether to approve a proposal that would allow individual congregations to let gay and lesbian people in committed relationships serve as clergy.
Debate on the issue is expected to be lively, with a final vote not expected until Friday.
But delegates are scheduled Monday night to vote on whether it will require a simple majority or a two-thirds supermajority of their votes to approve the change.
