James Dokken, 1928-2014

James (Jim) Wallace Dokken, 85, of Alexandria, formerly of Albert Lea, passed away July 1, 2014, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
Jim was born Nov. 22, 1928, on the family farm in Kensett, Iowa. He was one of 12 children born to the union of George and Wannie (Elam) Dokken. Jim was baptized and confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Kensett.
Jim and Arlis Remakel were married Sept. 14, 1950, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. They retired to the Alexandria area in the late ’80s and lived on Lake Mary until God called him home.
Jim’s early years he farmed. His trade was as an ironworker. Jim’s absolute joys in life were his family and friends, fishing…fishing…fishing, hunting, playing his concertina, building things with his hands, mentoring the younger generation, annual trips south to escape the Minnesota winters and sharing stories about his life adventures.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Sam Dokken and Leslie Dokken; sisters Mary Klinge and Barbara Dokken; grandson, Douglas Matthew Felt; sisters-in-law Marjorie Dokken, Vicky Dokken and Donna Dokken; brother-in-law, Ronnie Erickson; and niece, Robin Engelby.
Jim is survived by his wife, Arlis Dokken, of Alexandria; Thomas (Becky) Dokken of Alexandria; Sandy (Doug) Felt of Geneva; Randy (Brenda) Dokken of Albert Lea; Linda (Michael) Dokken-McFann of Alexandria; Garry Dokken of Canon City, Colo.; Jaade (Ronnie) Metcalfe Dokken King of New Richland; and Justin (Gina) Dokken of Canon City; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters Hazel Erickson of Alexandria and Juanita (Dutch) Bolinger of Alexandria; and brothers Truman (Donna) Dokken of Blue Eye, Mo.; Donald (LaVonne) Dokken of Austin, Wilford (Karen) Dokken of Alden, George Dokken of Kensett and Reuben Dokken of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave. in Kensett. The family was blessed to have had him for 85 years. May he find his “honey hole” to fish in heaven.
