Harriet Bartell, 1928-2014

Memorial services for Harriet A. Bartell of Albert Lea will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Matthew Griggs will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may visit with family one hour before services at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harriet died at St. John’s Lutheran Community on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014. She was 86.
She was born on June 18, 1928, in Pickerel Lake Township, the daughter of
William E. and Minnie O. (Wittmer) Krueger.
Harriet grew up on a farm in the Conger area and then was united in marriage to William Westney on Aug. 31, 1957. William died a year after they were married, before their son Michael was born.
On July 20, 1960, she married Lester Bartell. He also preceded her in death.
Harriet enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. She also sold Avon for several years.
She loved her church, Salem Lutheran, and was very active in activities, especially Sew & Tell, Ladies Aid and Circle.
Harriet was very supportive of community clubs and enjoyed her involvement in the VFW, Moose and Eagle’s Auxiliaries.
Her hobbies included many crafts and playing weekly bingo. Grandchildren will lovingly remember her as “Bingo Grandma.”
She is survived by her son, Michael Westney, and his wife, Jill, of Albert Lea and their daughters Hayley Westney of Albert Lea and Kelsey (Nick) Eide of Hollandale; great-grandchildren Kaylyn, Braiden and Tayven Eide; step-daughter, Beverly Foss, and her husband, Roy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and their daughters Jolene Stuefen and children Summer and Maggie, and Kori (Brad) Hazlett and children Brooklyn and Siena; and sisters Leona Swenson, Berneta Hansen and Rosalind Somnis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands William Westney and Lester Bartell; and sisters Marie Simonson, Mildred Yocom and Marvel Radfan.
