MINNEAPOLIS — A Hennepin County judge has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 18 years in prison for shooting a man at a Minneapolis grocery store.
The county attorney’s office said Wednesday that Zakaria Yusuf of St. Paul was sentenced for second-degree attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a gun. He was given the maximum state sentence Monday.
Prosecutors said the victim was outside a grocery store in September when Yusuf walked up and shot him several times. Prosecutors said Yusuf is affiliated with Somali gangs in Minneapolis and a gang in St. Paul.
The victim was treated at a hospital and released. Prosecutors said he wouldn’t cooperate with Yusuf’s trial and was placed on electronic home monitoring. They said he’s a member of a Somali gang.
