Authorities said Fire began in kitchen of home

AUSTIN — The quick actions of Austin firefighters and police officers made sure that one lucky pup will be still be running around.

Firefighters were called to 704 14th Ave. SW at around 4:50 p.m. Saturday to a report of smoke coming from a residence. Firefighters forced entry and after a few minutes a firefighter emerged carrying the dog, which was in distress. Rescue personal applied oxygen to the dog and rushed it to a vet. Fire Chief Jim McCoy reported later the dog was up and walking by the time it reached the vet.

The dog was later reunited with its owner.

McCoy said the cause of the fire, which originated in the kitchen, was still under investigation. He said there were flames visible in the kitchen when an east side door was breached.

Nobody was injured.

“There were two occupants (living) at the home and neither of them were at home at the time of the incident,” McCoy said.

McCoy said the home suffered minor damage.

“It’s going to need repairs,” he said. “It’s not a complete loss.”
