GLENVILLE — Three people were injured over the weekend in two motorcycle crashes near Glenville.
Joshua William Clark, 38, of rural Bricelyn, and Melissa Ann Frost, 35, of rural Hollandale, were injured in the first crash Saturday night on Main Street in Glenville, according to a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Both were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. Frost was checked out for minor injuries and released, and Clark was later transported by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
His condition was unknown as of this morning.
In the second crash, Rickie Dean Rice, 59, of Glenville, was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea after a crash early Sunday morning at 76307 150th St., west of Glenville. Rice appeared to have leg or foot injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office stated the first crash happened at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday in front of the Glenville Legion.
When deputies and Glenville first responders arrived at the scene, they found Clark, who was the driver, in the roadway. He was conscious and moving.
The Sheriff’s Office stated the crash appeared to be caused by Clark leaving the parking lot at an unsafe speed and losing control of the motorcycle. Both he and Frost were thrown off. Neither were wearing helmets.
After Frost was released from the hospital, deputies arrested her for fifth-degree possession of methamphetamine. Ambulance staff found a pill bottle in the ambulance containing prescription pills and methamphetamine.
The crash remains under investigation, and it is not known yet if alcohol was a factor.
An unknown man reportedly climbed on the Harley-Davidson motorcycle and drove it away. It had not been found as of press time this morning. It was unclear whether it was a theft or an acquaintance trying to help the couple.
The Sheriff’s Office stated the second crash was reported at 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
Rice was reportedly riding the motorcycle eastbound on 150th Street when he laid his motorcycle down on its side after he saw downed power lines across the road. He and the motorcycle slid under the power lines and into the north ditch, the release states.
The power lines were down because a fallen tree that caused the electrical pole on the north side of the road to break.
Rice was wearing his helmet.
Assisting with the crash were the Albert Lea Police Department, Glenville First Responders, Gold Cross Ambulance and Alliant Energy.
