After a nearly two-hour search on Wednesday involving more than 125 volunteers, a missing 2-year-old boy was found uninjured and sleeping in a field about a half mile from where he was last seen.
According to a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, just after 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the boy’s mother, Amanda Schulz of Madison Avenue in Albert Lea, reporting that her son had gone missing.
She said the boy, Tyson Walter-Schulz, was last seen operating a child’s ATV near a residence at 14096 795th Ave. in Glenville. The boy has blonde hair and blue eyes and was wearing a red T-shirt and blue shorts.
Crews — including a canine unit from the South Central Drug Investigation Unit Tactical Squad and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter equipped with thermal imaging equipment — searched for the boy through two houses, outbuildings, groves, ditches, railroad tracks and numerous waterways, the release stated.
Freeborn County Emergency Management, Albert Lea Medical Center, Albert Lea Police Department, personnel from Glenville, Albert Lea, Albert Lea Township, Hayward, Twin Lakes and Emmons fire departments, and numerous neighbors and volunteers also assisted.
The child was found at about 5:53 p.m. when first responders from the Myrtle Fire Department spotted the child’s ATV near a field on the east side of U.S. Highway 65. The boy was found about 20 feet from where the ATV was parked, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
