VIRGINIA — A Hibbing man is charged with murder in the 2012 death of his former girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter.

Twenty-six-year-old Russell Shannon Johnson was arraigned Friday on a second-degree murder charge.

Johnson was arrested Thursday. The Mesabi Daily News reports bail was set at $500,000.

The girl — Caroline Shenze Marie Medicine-Chavez — died of head trauma in March 2012.

According to the complaint, Johnson was alone with the girl. He told police that Caroline fell and hit her head.
