The next book from author Dan Buettner, explorer and founder of the Minneapolis-based Blue Zones organization, comes out in six months.
Contacted through Facebook, Buettner said he is working on the book presently and plans to release it in March. The working title, as listed on the Blue Zone’s Facebook page, is “The Blue Zones Solution: A Food Guide and Life Design from the World’s Healthiest People.”
The book is listed on Amazon as going on sale April 7, 2015. People can order the book now and receive it when it comes out. However, the title there states: “The Blue Zones Solution: A Proven Plan for Healthy Eating and Living Based on the Habits of the World’s Healthiest People.”
Albert Lea was part of a Blue Zones pilot project in 2009. The effort sought to transform the environment to make the city a healthier place to live and work and was able to measure success among the participants. The Blue Zones this year is back to make Albert Lea a demonstration site.
As part of a partnership between Healthways Inc. and Blue Zones LLC., the city will be one of several communities across the country seeking to achieve official Blue Zones Community certification. The certification asks the community to fulfill several requirements — many of which the city began implementing in 2009.
“Dan Buettner, the New York Times bestselling author of The Blue Zones, lays out a proven plan to maximize your health based on the practices of the world’s healthiest people,” states the Amazon description of the book. “For the first time, Buettner reveals how to transform your health using smart eating and lifestyle habits gleaned from new research on the diets, eating habits, and lifestyle practices of the communities he’s identified as ‘Blue Zones’ — those places with the world’s longest-lived, and thus healthiest, people.”
It seems the title of “The Blue Zones Solution” is down pat, but Buettner has qualms about the subtitle.
On Dan Buettner’s Facebook page, he asks people to vote for a subtitle to the book. He offers these options:
1. “How the World’s Healthiest People Got that Way, A Food and Lifestyle Plan”
2. “Diet and Design Nudges of the World’s Healthiest People”
3. “How to Make the Healthy Choice Easy: Food and Lifestyle Plan from the World’s Healthiest People”
On the Blue Zones’ Facebook page, it asks for responses to two subtitles:
1. “Making the Healthy Choice Easy: A Food and Lifestyle Plan from the World’s Healthiest People”
2. “How the World’s Healthiest People Got That Way: A Food and Lifestyle Plan”
On the page, Buettner also offers further insight into the book’s content.
The book achieves three things, he says.
1. “Reveals what centenarians really ate to be 100 (Distillation of 150 studies in all five Blue Zones).”
2. “Reveals how you can set up your life so the healthy choice is easiest.”
3. “Tells how we use these principals to ‘Blue Zone’ cities.”
From that, it might not be difficult to conclude that Albert Lea probably is mentioned in the book, but, still, that has not been confirmed.
Buettner also notes that the book also contains 50 Blue Zones recipes.
Other Blue Zones books by Buettner are “Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zones Way,” published in 2010, and “The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest,” published in 2008.
