Speaker was All-State quarterback for Albert Lea football, Division I hockey coach
The Albert Lea High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee announced Friday that Craig Dahl will be the featured speaker at its annual banquet.
Dahl was an All-State quarterback for Albert Lea in 1970. He was a NCAA Division I men’s head hockey coach at St. Cloud State University for 19 years before retiring in 2005 to enter private business.
Dahl will speak at the banquet at 7 p.m. July 8 at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. There will be a four-person best shot scramble golf tournament at 9:30 a.m. on July 9.
The ALHS Athletic Hall of Fame will induct 5 to 10 nominees this year and is receiving nominations until April 30. Nominations, banquet order forms and golf entry order forms can be sent to ALHS Athletic Hall of Fame, Albert Lea Education Association, P.O. Box 828, Albert Lea, MN 56007. All forms are also available online at http://es.albertlea.k12.mn.us/hsfame/default.aspx.
The ALHS Athletic Hall of Fame was formed in 2010 for the purpose of acknowledging outstanding athletes, coaches and state championship teams that have made significant historical contributions to the athletic program at ALHS.
Through the fund raising efforts of the Hall of Fame, money raised is deposited into the Albert Lea Education Foundation and the net proceeds paid out to the Albert Lea High School sports programs for the purpose of lowering student participation fees across all sports.
Last year, the Hall of Fame contributed more than $8,000 to the sports programs.
