Albert Lea’s Jackson Goodell won the boys’ cross country race Saturday at the Jim Flim Invitational at Winona, and the Tigers finished in the top third as a team in the boys’ and girls’ races.
Goodell completed the course in 16:43.7 to beat second-place finisher, Seth Massot of Rochester Century, by 3.6 seconds.
“Jackson had an outstanding push during the last 300 yards to pass the Century runner down the stretch,” said Albert Lea coach Jim Haney. “This is quite an accomplishment because Albert Lea has not had a male runner win the race in about 15 years.”
The boys’ team finished fifth out of 16 teams. The girls’ team was led by Haley Harms’ 19th-place finish in 17:16.3 to take third place out of 14 teams.
