The Albert Lea football team’s defense was able to force turnovers, but the Tigers fell 35-7 Friday at Rochester Century.
“Our defense played exceptional,” said Albert Lea coach Kevin Armbrust. “We found some things scheme-wise that will work for us.”
Those scheme adjustments included moving safeties Parker Boyum and Dereck Samudio up to the linebacker position.
“They played well off the edge and forced the ball inside,” Armbrust said. “It was a nice discovery.”
Nick Kromminga led the Tigers with seven tackles, while Triston Westerlund had six tackles and a fumble recovery. Tim Christianson had four tackles, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
Westerlund also split time behind center with Jake Kilby. Westerlund was 2-of-11 passing for eight yards with two picks.
Kilby and Westerlund each posted a team-high 53 rushing yards.
Next, Albert Lea (0-5 overall, 0-5 Big Nine Conference) will host Faribault (3-2 overall, 3-2 Big Nine Conference) at 7 p.m. next Friday.
The Falcons are on a two-game winning streak and are coming off of a 23-21 home win against Rochester Mayo.
