Church to offer Celtic service

Salem Lutheran Church of Albert Lea will offer a contemplative Celtic service on the first Wednesday of each month. The service will be meditative, hope filled and the language used will focus on nature and being wonderfully created in the image of God. The Celtic tradition is a collection of different practices, such as Northumbria traditions from the northeast coast of England and Scotland’s Iona community. These traditions did not adopt the Roman traditions but centered on their own traditions and views on God.
In the church’s Celtic worship they will draw from many prayers and texts that reach as far back as the sixth century. The Rev. Mark Niethammer acknowledges that, “All over the western world there is a yearning for a renewed depth of relationship between spirituality and the mystery of creation.”
Services for this fall are scheduled for this Wednesday, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3. The service begins at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary and is followed by an invitation to dinner at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
